If there was ever a unit to be a part of, this is the one! Our vibrant and interactive unit, "Then and Now: Celebrating Black Excellence" shines a spotlight on the remarkable achievements of Black trailblazers, blending stories from the past with the innovations of today.
Each week brings a fresh theme to life highlighting the contributions Black Americans have made in sports, music, fashion, art, science, and more.
From Jackie Robinson and Simone Biles inspiring perseverance in sports, to the creative genius of Dapper Dan, Alma Thomas and Stevie Wonder in music, art, and fashion. Inventors Week will have students exploring innovation with leaders such as Garrett Morgan, Lyda Newman, Lonnie Johnson, and of course “The Father of Ice Cream”, Augustus Jackson.
This hands-on, project-based 4-week unit connects ELA, Math, and Social Studies with creative cross-curricular activities, including art, STEM, cooking, music, and games.
From creating Alma Thomas-inspired art collages to making “Ice Cream in a Bag”, this unit is packed with opportunities for creativity, critical thinking, and connection. Perfectly aligned with Kindergarten standards, it’s an unforgettable adventure that combines fun and learning while celebrating Black history and excellence!
